Public venues need a performer who provides a clean and entertaining ‘presence’ to their product and service.
Ben offers these services:
A strolling magician circulates around and approaches people seated at tables or standing in small groups. He performs a short, intimate show that is repeated for each new group. He carries his props in his pockets (or a small bag/case).
Strolling magicians generally perform for about 50 people per hour. You may want to consider having several magicians strolling for large groups.
Strolling magic is NOT appropriate during a dinner. The need for audience involvement is too interruptive of the meal.
Strolling magic does not work well for events that have a contained audience of less than 20 people. Strolling magicians need to work privately with only a few people at a time. With small audiences, a strolling act will draw the attention of everybody in a room all at once and his performance will become a very short stand up show instead.
Some family events create problems for strolling magicians. Unattended children often follow the performer around from group to group, asking questions and wanting to be included. Strolling acts then find it difficult to approach new groups, repeat routines, and effectively entertain them.
The name comes from the way that a ‘street performer’ deals with mobile audiences. It does not have to be performed ‘on a street’ but refers to any situation where a large number of people are moving and the magician remains in one spot and performs short shows. He attracts attention to himself, builds a crowd from the people passing by, performs a few routines, and then lets them walk on. He repeats this process, usually performing the same show.
It can be either as a stand-up act with medium sized props or as close-up magic performed at a table or behind a counter.
This type of show also works well in situations that create long lines of people.
Many organizations have found interesting and productive connections using the concept of magic to help deliver a message to their event attendees.
Consider these titles:
Finding Magic In All You Do
Share The Magic
The Magic Begins...
The Magic of (your organization or theme)
A Night of Magic
Magic in the Air
Holiday Magic
Winter Magic
Summer Magic
The word, “Magic” gives a feeling of wonder and power to any subject. If you are having a magician entertain for you, why not convey a magical message?
